We love our fall and winter weddings here at the farm! With the sun setting sooner, the orange glow over the ceremony sites accompanied by the market lights above your cocktail reception in Sweethome Town, truly set the tone for a romantic and rustic evening. When it’s time to head over into your dinner reception, we do encourage our couples and clients to notify guests ahead of time to prepare for a subtle breeze and evening chill just in case. The best way to keep the party going is to keep your guests happy!
When you begin wedding planning for an outdoor fall or winter wedding here at the farm or elsewhere in San Diego, here are five tips to help prepare your guests for the possible evening chill.
Heaters // Here at Sweetwater Farms, we include two standing heaters when you book, providing a comfortable temperature in The Barn during dinner, speeches and for the guests who enjoy mingling around the table. For the guests who want to socialize outside around the dance floor or playing lawn games, we certainly encourage you to look into renting more heaters to maintain the welcoming atmosphere of those spaces.
Shoes // By the time you book Sweetwater Farms, you’ll already know what type of shoes you want to wear during your event here at the farm. However, your guests may not! It’s a great idea to add on your invite or event website to wear comfortable shoes. Boots and warm socks are always a great go-to suggestion!
Layers // Another great mention for your invites or event website is for your guests to bring layers! When the sun is out, you can expect our beautiful San Diego weather and a nice breeze. However, once you head into the evening hours, the temperature drops quickly! No matter how much you’re moving and shaking on the dance floor, a coverup is always a great idea.
Comfortable Seating // When hosting your event in The Barn + Courtyard, we included bench seating for up to 180 guests. If you would like to bring in different seating, we suggest working with our preferred vendor, Patty’s Linen Rentals. Additionally, it’s always a nice touch to rent additional chairs for those who may require a bit more attention like your elderly guests. Also, we love it when the The Barn Lawn is utilized for a plush rental lounge paired with additional heaters for a comfortable space to relax.
A hot beverage display accompanying your dessert area can go a long way! Work with your catering or bar service, or set it up as a DIY with our included furniture and decor. Some of our favorite displays include espresso machines, coffee and tea bars and do it yourself hot cocoa stations.
We loved this hot cocoa favor placed at each guest’s setting, at our most recent wedding here at the farm celebrating Brooke + Collin. Guests had the chance to make their own hot cocoa at their hot beverage bar which also included do-it-yourself espresso and coffee.
